Fair Trade Legislation for Iowa
SF2239
Make your voices known...
SF 2239 has not yet been placed on the legislative calender in the Iowa Senate. SF2239 is a bill that would create a state of Iowa Fair Trade Commission. The bill would create a commission that will bring labor, business, educators, and environmentalist together to examine Iowas options when it comes to Federal trade agreements like NAFTA and CAFTA.
It is abundantly clear that the Federal government is MIA when it comes to protecting the American people. Whether it is toxins in our children's toys, or poison in our dog food we can not count on Uncle Sam to protect the good people of Iowa. These trade agreements have a far reaching impact on jobs, the environment, and investment.
We must carefully examine these trade negotiates and look for ways our state can better protect our people, keep good jobs here, and invest in local business without the threat of lawsuits calming we are putting up barriers to trade. The creation of a Fair Trade Commission that brings all interested parties together would be a great start down the road to trade policies that work for Iowa.
Unfortunately Senate Majority leader Mike Gronstal has failed to put SF 2239 on the Iowa Senates legislative calender. This bill made it out of committee and threw the legislative funnel and deserves to be debated on the Senate floor this session.
Please email Majority Leader Gronstal today and tell him you want SF 2239 put on the legislative calender and given the fair debate this important bill deserves.
